Press Release: Announcing 2018 Expo

The fifth annual St. Louis Small Press Expo (stlspexpo) show and sale will take place from 10:00-5:00 on Saturday, October 13th in the Great Hall of the St. Louis Public Library’s Central Library, 1301 Olive Street, 63103. Stlspexpo will curate panels, demonstrations and workshops that will take place throughout the day at Central Library featuring local, regional and national publishers. All stlspexpo events will be free and open to the public.

Applications for tables will open on May 1, 2018 and remain open through May 31, 2018 at 11:59p.m. Stlspexpo seeks the widest possible variety of participants. Publishers of zines, limited run art books, comics, traditional books, broadsides, journals of literature and/or art are all encouraged to apply, especially those with a unique format or target audience. Applications are entirely online and will be available at stlouissmallpressexpo.com.

This year the Expo’s theme will be: You Can Do This, Too!; Expo poster art will be by local comics artist Ray Nadine. The first confirmed guest so far is indie poetry publisher Yes Yes Books, who will host a reading on Expo day. More guests will be announced in the coming weeks via social media.

St. Louis Public Library’s Central Library will host the Expo for the fourth time; in addition to hosting the show itself, Central Library has added the works of previous stlspexpo publishers to its permanent collection where they’re available to be checked out by library patrons. Many of these items can be found in Central’s Zine Library, located in the Entertainment, Literature & Biography room.

The St. Louis Small Press Expo is organized collectively by: Christopher Chablé (Somnadrome Press); Nick Kuntz (Any Other Time & Underworld Adventure Comics); David Peery (Bear & Otter, Co.); Jared Rourke (A Queer Press); Jen Tappenden (Architrave Press); and Kristie Wickwire (Please Hold Magazine). Emeritus: Lauren Cardenas (Saturday Press); and Nicky Rainey. Join us on Facebook, Instagram, tumblr and Twitter using #stlspexpo
